1943. John Dardini, after being wounded, is sent to be a cook on a ship docked in the north channel. The ship had been completed just before the war began and consequently rejected by Sweden, to which it was intended. Once on board, John discovers that the situation is much more complicated than it sounds: the captain is conducting a dangerous game to resell on the black market the content of the ship blocked, plus hosts his daughter board in the dark the crew. Years later, an octogenarian John, on a hospital bed, recalls his adventure between dream and hallucination, and find the strength to throw himself back and groped, as before, the impossible.
