Feast of the Redeemer

The Feast of the Redeemer is one of the holidays more sincerely felt by the Venetians as it combines a religious and that looks spectacular, thanks to the spectacular firework display that on the night of Saturday, attracts thousands of visitors: the unbeatable backdrop of the Basin of San Marco plays of light and reflections produce a kaleidoscope of colors that are silhouetted spiers, domes and bell towers of the city. Tradition dictates that at sunset the boats, decorated with boughs and colored balloons, well-lit, begin congregating in Saint Mark's Basin and the Giudecca Canal. In the boats people eat a hearty dinner of traditional Venetian dishes waiting for the firework display, which begins at 23.30 and lasts until after midnight. The tradition of the Redeemer dates back to 1577 and commemorates the end of a terrible plague, celebrated with the construction of the basilica of Palladio on Giudecca Island, to which you can now go on pilgrimage through a huge long pontoon bridge 330 meters.
